On December 6, 2023, the Government of Canada announced that the Composites Knowledge Network (CKN) is a recipient of funding under the new Strategic Science Fund (SSF). The Government followed-up with a May 26, 2024 news released detailing the funding for all recipients, including the $1 million awarded to CKN.
The SSF was created to support science and research organizations that are conducting internationally competitive, cutting-edge research and translating that research and knowledge into action. CKN was among 24 recipients across the health, science, and research sectors.
“CKN’s goal is to be Canada’s leading authority in the translation of world-class knowledge on composite materials and structures to the Canadian manufacturing industry. This funding will enable CKN to continue and expand our support for small and medium sized enterprises by accelerating the transfer of state-of-the-art composites knowledge into industry,” explains Dr. Anoush Poursartip, Co-Director, Composites Knowledge Network.
“Composites are transforming manufacturing in nearly every industry, from aerospace and automotive to health, construction, and renewable energy. At CKN, we’re excited to be at the heart of this innovation. We’re grateful for the funding to support CKN’s Knowledge in Practice Centre (KPC), Application and Impact (AIM webinars), and composites community engagement into 2026.”
The SSF aims to increase the quality of internationally competitive, leading-edge research in areas critical to the health, economic and social well-being of Canadians; develop, attract and retain world-class research and innovation talent in scientific areas that are aligned with Canada’s priorities; accelerate the exchange of research results and the translation of this knowledge into action in Canada and abroad; and, strengthen evidence-based decision-making, innovation skills development and science culture.
